Preserving heritage, elevating experience
This project saw the transformation of a 1980s hotel lobby and adjoining bottle shop into a refined, high-end gaming suite designed exclusively for gaming clientele. Working closely with our client, the vision was to elevate the space while respecting its existing character — particularly the original sandstone walls and timber vaulted ceiling, which now form a rich architectural backdrop to the new design.
Reimagining two dated areas into a cohesive gaming destination required a careful balance of preservation and renewal. The challenge was to introduce contemporary finishes and functionality without losing the warmth and authenticity of the original structure. By retaining and celebrating the sandstone and timber elements, the new interventions feel layered and intentional rather than imposed.
The arrival experience begins in the new gaming lobby, where bespoke wall panels with integrated lighting and carefully considered ceiling features enhance the existing architecture. A distinctive portal creates a strong visual connection between the lobby and the new gaming bar, guiding guests naturally through the space. The bar itself has been completely reimagined with high-quality finishes, a new back bar, and a dedicated wash-up area to support efficient service.
Beyond, the gaming room features all-new interior finishes, custom lighting designed to enhance atmosphere, and ergonomic gaming chairs paired with integrated screens for comfort and performance. Custom timber and rattan wall panels add warmth and tactility, while arched breeze blocks allow for 50% ventilation, maintaining airflow without compromising aesthetics. Built-in garden beds and planters introduce natural elements, softening the space and adding depth. A new bathroom suite — including male, female, and accessible facilities — completes the experience.
The result is a sophisticated and cohesive gaming environment that honours the building’s history while delivering a modern, comfortable, and highly functional destination for guests.
